We seek to reconstruct past fire activity in NH using tree ring records (above, PSU Environmental Science Students learning tree ring collection) as well as charcoal analyses of bog and lake sediments.
I am excited to be starting a collaborative project with the US Forest Service in New Hampshire to investigate past wildfires in NH and the region. With pilot cores in hand from NH bogs, I am starting charcoal analyses with Plymouth State University Environmental Science students during the 22-23 AY. I hope to combine these analyses with tree ring records and am excited to partner with a dendrochronologist working with NOAA and CIRES. From these reconstructions of past fire activity, we hope to be able to inform current and future fire management practices right here in New Hampshire!
